The Kahn Game (Pretty Little Liars recap)

Such a good episode!

This week’s episode was The Kahn Game. And it was packedwith new info!  Here’s what we learned:

  • Maya’s site had a picture of her wrist with the stamp (the one that Holden had, that Emily also saw on the night she was drugged).  Thus, Maya did attend “the party”.
  • Ashley (Hanna’s mom) is helping Hanna via getting Veronica (Spencer’s mom, the lawyer) on board with the mandatory blood testing sitch.
  • Caleb knows that there’s still an ‘A’ out there and tricks Hanna into meeting up with him, via sending her a text “from A”.  She fills him in on a bit of the drama.  Kissing ensues.  (Are they back together then?  What about her kissing Wren?)
  • Ezra has a brother, Wes.  We don’t know much about him other than that he’s probably either sketchy, or just plain rude like their mom.  More money/family issues for Ezra.
  • The Liars clue Emily in to the website.  She checks it out, cries, and gets comforted by Paige.
  • Spencer wants to get into UPenn so new girl CeCe takes her and Aria to a party, where she connects her to an old friend, Steven, the UPenn admissions guy (supposedly).
  • Turns out the party 1) is at Noel Kahn’s cabin, and 2) is “the party” – so the girls get their very own stamped wrists.  So we know that Maya was at one of Noel’s cabin parties at least once before she died.
  • At the party, Aria and Noel battle it out via an intensely fast-paced and intensely honest game of Truth or Dare (minus the Dare).  We find out that on the night that Ali’s grave was dug up, Jenna picked Noel up and they went out.  Then he asked about Ezra and Aria freaked out and left.
  • Next, Spencer takes on Jenna.  We learn that Jenna and Noel picked up Emily at the diner (so perhaps the wrist she remembers seeing was Noel’s?)  Jenna lied about this before because she was “trying to protect someone”.   She then asks Spencer where “the video” is.  (Which video?  Are we supposed to remember this?  I have a vague recollection that they have a video of Jenna in her room saying weird things about her love for Toby or something, but maybe I’m making that up.)
  • Aria calls Ezra to pick her up, but talks to his brother instead, who picks her up and spills that Ezra got a girl, Maggie, pregnant back in high school.
  • Ashley has a cute dinner date with Pastor Ted.  (They’re way cuter together than he would be with Ella.)
  • Aria confronts Ezra about Maggie.  He tells her his mom paid her off to leave (with the baby?) and never speak to Ezra again.  (Does he have some kid somewhere?)
  • Spencer receives an email from UPenn admissions saying they received her application.
  • Last scene is ‘A’ getting the keys to apartment A from a woman who loves cats.

What I think:

I loved the Truth game scenes.   So fast-paced!  So good!  I especially loved Jenna’s line, “Isn’t that why you lied about your parents’ lake house?  (laughs) Don’t worry, that was rhetorical.  This isn’t: where is the video?”

SO GOOD!  Way to go Tammin.

I don’t like the stuff we’re finding out about Ezra.  Makes him feel kind of distant, like there’s so much we don’t know about him.  And now he might have a kid?  And he didn’t tell Aria?  Um…

Love Ashley and Ted.  I hope they get married.  He would be a good stepdad for Hanna.

Love Hanna and Caleb!  Ever since that first scene in the shower. ❤

Emily was hardly in this episode.  Eh.

What did you think of this week’s episode?  What do you think happened after Noel and Jenna picked Emily up at the diner?

NIMMD (Pretty Little Liars Recap, part 2)

We left off with Mona giving us some crazy code, Hanna looking guilty, and a new girl, CeCe.

Tonight’s episode is “Stolen Kisses”.

Here’s what happened:

  • The liars try and figure out the password for Maya’s (or ‘A”s?) site.
  • Emily goes up to some boat house thing with Nate and they have a heart to heart.  (Surprise, surprise.)
  • Aria suddenly and unexpectedly meets Ezra’s mom!  (And she was ridiculously composed and confident.  I would be freaking out if I met my older/previously illegal boyfriend’s mom for the first time.  Especially to find her wearing diamonds and Chanel.  And I’m 6 years older than Aria!)
  • Ezra’s real last name is Fitzgerald.  And his family is loaded.
  • Spencer and Toby get into a semi-fight about her lack of sharing info with him, and the resulting lie he had to tell the police the other night.
  • Emily meets up with Paige to explain the drugs in her flask of alcohol that Paige ended up drinking.
  • Hanna meets with Wren who tells her that Mona is going to be moved to a facility in New York.  Caleb sees them talking together.  (SighFacePalmRollsEyes.)
  • Spencer enlists the help of computer-savvy Caleb to break into Maya’s site.  (Btw, Caleb is livin’ large after a visit with his mom in California.  Fancy cars and $400 sweaters for you!)
  • Paige admits that on the night that Emily was drugged and ended up at Ali’s grave, she had been over to Paige’s house, and they had kissed.  Paige feels guilty and Emily is like wtf I still can’t remember anything.  She has some thinking to do.
  • Spencer and Aria snoop Spencer’s mom’s court papers and get the deets on Maya’s death.  They conclude that Garrett could still be her murderer despite the blood on the anklet not being his.  Aria leaves and goes to talk to one of the witnesses listed in the papers: its some guy who works at a movie theatre who says he saw Maya get into Garrett’s car the night she was killed.
  • Spencer flirts with Caleb while they do sneaky computer things.  (I do not like this.  I don’t care if you now have $400 sweaters in common.  You do not belong together.  Take your hand off his arm.  I saw that.)
  • They break into the site and see a huge collection of videos of Maya talking to the camera, saying weird/random/Maya things.  They decide the site was indeed really Maya’s.
  • Aria and Ezra attend a fancy gallery party to hang out with his mom.  Apparently Ezra’s family is super loaded.  Aria is suspicious as to why Ezra has been strapped for cash, but after spending a few rudely invasive moments with his mom, realizes that she’s awful and that Ezra has basically cut himself off from his family, and rightly so.
  • Emily and creepy Nate unintentionally (coincidentally?) meet at the boathouse again.  At night.  In the dark.  More heart to hearts as per uje.  She concludes from their less-than-insightful conversation that although she was drunk and drugged the night she kissed Paige, it was still her, and therefore it means she really wanted to kiss Paige.
  • Hanna talks with the hospital board and convinces them to let Mona stay there.  Outside the meeting, she kisses Wren out of excitement.  (No.  Bad.  Dislike.)
  • Emily goes over to Paige’s house and once again suggests they give it a shot.  They swim topless in the pool.
  • The liars (sans Emily) watch more Maya videos.  In one, Maya says, “I have to face my fears.  I can’t hide forever.”  The liars try to call Emily to join them but she’s busy synchronized swimming with Paige.
  • Last scene is a bank teller counting out major dough for ‘A’.

What I think:

Still don’t trust Nate.  Not sure what his deal is, but for all I know, he’s not even Maya’s cousin.  I don’t think he’s necessarily part of the A-team though.  Maybe Maya’s stalker from before?

It was cool to see Ezra’s mom and learn more about his family.  I hope they continue a bit with that storyline.  Also curious about his money situation.

Poor Toby – always out of the loop.  Hopefully he and Spencer can hang on and she doesn’t end up wit Caleb.  And hopefully Caleb and Hanna can reunite without sneaky Wren getting in the picture.

I don’t really care whether Emily dates Paige.  I’ve never been that fond of Paige, but I at least trust that she’s not on the A-team, so that’s refreshing.

Caleb again saves the day by breaking into Maya’s site.  (See, Hanna?  You have to keep him around!)

Interesting plot twist that Emily had visited Paige that night!

I also liked that the girls got some info from Spence’s mom’s court papers.

Too bad Ezra’s mom turned out to be a lame-o.  Especially since Aria was kind of in her element at the fancy gallery party and isn’t the trash Mommy thinks she is.  Too bad – they all could have been friends.  And rich.

I’m excited to see the other Maya videos!  I wonder if it will turn out that she had anything to do with the Ian/Jason videos from earlier seasons.  She has some with Emily in them, and it seems eerily like the others.  (Except Emily obviously knew she was being filmed in Maya’s.  So far, anyway.)

In the video where Maya is scared, it looks as though she’s at the boat house.  Just before the video gets cut off, some red lights flash against her.  Could it be police officer Garrett coming to see her?

I wonder where ‘A’ is getting all this money.  And more importantly, I wonder why the bank teller doesn’t find it at all odd that she’s giving out 100’s of 1000’s of dollars to a [probably] teenager in a hoodie.

What did you guys think of this episode?  And what do you think of all this cross-couple flirting?

NIMMD (Pretty Little Liars Recap, part 1)

I’ve been thinking for awhile that I should write reviews/recaps on some of my favorite tv shows because I’m the type of person who googles the episode after finishing it to look for answers and find other viewers as obsessed as me who I can relate to.  I never end up finding much.  So I’m going to try writing my own!  If you are reading this and are a crazy PLL fan, please do comment and talk with me about it!

So tonight I watched two episodes (I’ve been behind!):  “Crazy” and “Stolen Kisses”.

Here’s a quick recap of “Crazy”:

  • Det. Wilden thinks its Hanna’s blood on the anklet Spencer and Jason found.  (Type O-Negative, for those fans who want to take note of these things.)
  • The liars meet an old friend of Alison’s, CeCe.  She looks/sounds eerily like Ali.  She’s heard about the girls, but they have no idea who she is.  Hm.  (And she also dated Jason, for those of you who think Ali has a twin/CeCe is the twin.  She’s not.)
  • Ella goes on a date with Pastor Ted (is he the only eligible bachelor in Rosewood?)
  • Spencer wears a horrible outfit remenscent of a rollerskate diner girl.
  • Nate’s all set to go out with Jenna, and enlists Emily’s help in buying her gifts.  But, he hints to Emily that he’d rather be with her.
  • Hanna finds a gift from ‘A’ in her kitchen and pricks her finger on it – its an old Ouija board she and Mona once played with, accompanied by the note “See how easy it is for me to get your blood?”  Turns out this Ouija board was buried in Ali’s grave (along with the earrings and whatever else came up, I forget.  Someone remind me?)
  • Flashback to Hanna and Mona playing with the board.  They ask about Ali and the board says “Alive.”  Hanna sees Ali outside her back door.  (Oh, and its a thunderstorm.  Again.  Like all flashbacks.  Not complaining, though – I love thunder storms.)
  • Ella goes on her date and isn’t too impressed with the pastor.  She fancies the coffee shop owner instead.
  • Aria visits Mona.  (And nothing really happens.)
  • Meanwhile, Hanna runs into Ali’s dad, who hates her.  Turns out, Hanna called the DiLaurentis’ the night she saw Ali outside her back door, and told them she was alive.  That was three days before they found her body.
  • CeCe anonymously calls Jenna and threatens her if she goes out with Nate. And it works, because Emily later walks past Nate in a restaurant alone, looking distressed.  (With his gift for Jenna on the table.  How sad.)
  • Hanna and Aria go back to see Mona via sneaking in.  They get distracted and Mona sneaks off into the creepy Children’s Ward.  They find her playing with dolls, saying weird things: “Miss Aria, you’re a killer, not Ezra’s wife.”  “Where were we?”  “Maya’s away sleeping sweet; until Garret’s all rosy, count on me.”  “Where were we?”  “No one to save Ali from evil, no one to save Ali from evil.”  [Then the nurses come in to collect her.]  To them:  “No.”  “I missed my dolls.”
  • Jason gets drunk and crashes his car, and Spencer covers for him.  Clueless Toby has to lie to the police later, saying she was with him all night.
  • Hanna realizes that Mona’s weird sayings were a code they used to use.  The girls decipher it to be, “Maya knew”, “not safe”, and “”.  They check out the website and see a photo of Maya, but the rest is password protected.
  • Last scene is ‘A’ walking into the Children’s Ward, pulling the head off of one of the dolls, and pulling out a tape recorder – playing back the girls’ talking to Mona and Mona saying the code.

What I think:

Is it Hanna’s blood on the anklet?  I don’t really care.  I’m pretty sure she’s innocent, so it would obvious just be a set up.  ‘A’ basically alluded to as much with the note, anyway.

I think Spencer hit the nail of the head when she rebutted Aria’s “That chick [CeCe] is freakishly like Ali” with “Or was Ali freakishly like her?”  I have a feeling that CeCe was the original mean girl who taught Ali her ways.

Regarding the Ouija board: the liars are worried that ‘A’ knew about that night with Mona (or that maybe Mona is still ‘A’ and therefore she’s the one who orchestrated the gift in Hanna’s kitchen.)  But I don’t think it matters what ‘A’ knows.  They reason it was in Hanna’s kitchen is because she buried it in Ali’s grave.  So obviously it has some significance; ‘A’ could have just guessed.  But, knowing ‘A’, he/she/they are probably fully in the loop anyway.

I don’t know what I make of Ali’s dad hating Hanna – other than her matching blood type now gives him another reason to hate her.  But I doubt this will really turn into anything major.  I think they just put this in to bring up the flashbacks of the code Hanna had with Mona.

I don’t know what to make of the Children’s Ward either.  But something tells me that it has some significance because Aria reads the sign on the door aloud: “Children’s Ward.  Dedicated in 1931.”  (No idea on this one.  Btw, Mona broke into this locked area of the hospital via the tweezers she swiped from Hanna’s makeup supplies a few visits ago.  The same tweezers she pricked her finger with.  Any connection between this and the blood on the anklet / possibly framing Hanna?”)

I loved the code bit!  So fun!  As soon as Hanna told the girls about it, I excitedly rewound and jotted it down for myself.  “Maya knew” – so exciting!  Haha, I loved this.  Who knows what the website may hold, but this episode definitely gave away some key info and it was fun finding it!

Now, as for the last bit that Mona said – “No.  I missed my dolls.”  She was talking to the nurses, not the girls, so I’m not sure if this is part of the code or not.  It could be NIMMD or just IMMD (maybe “No” didn’t count.)  Not sure.  We shall have to wait and see!

Luckily for me, I watched this episode the same day as the following episode, so I wasn’t uncomfortably waiting like usual.  This post is quite long so I think I’ll break it up into two posts afterall.  Click here for the next episode!

P.S.  After I watch Pretty Little Liars, I always start looking for Janel Parrish (Mona) behind doors and in dark corners.  Anyone else do this?
